Effective 6/30/2024, we will no longer participate in the Scripps Physicians Medical Group (SPMG) network.
To keep Perlman Clinic for primary care: 1) Call member services on your insurance card. 2) Tell them you would like to keep your primary care provider, but to switch the medical group / IPA. Ask for your options. 3) They should give you at least one of the options below, depending on your plan coverage. If you would like to speak to Perlman Clinic immediately about this change, please call or text 858-554-1212.
PPO insurance plans offer broad networks that give patients access to most primary care and specialists in a region. HMO insurance plans, however, typically require use of a subset of the primary care and specialists in a region, which is referred to as a medical group or IPA. San Diego, for example, has 15+ medical groups / IPAs that contract with HMO insurance plans.
Perlman Clinic currently has 10 medical groups / IPAs that it participates in. However, not all medical groups / IPAs participate in each health plan, which is why it’s important to ask your health plan for options.
Yes!
To change your medical group / IPA, simply call the member services number on your insurance card and tell them you would like to keep your primary care provider (PCP), but to switch the medical group / IPA. Ask for your options.
To change your PCP, visit your medical group / IPA’s website to see other PCP options. Once you have chosen a new PCP, simply call the member services number on your insurance card and tell them you would like to keep your medical group / IPA, but switch your PCP.
You can find provider rosters here for different medical groups / IPAs: http://www.perlmanclinic.com/
If you change your medical group / IPA, you’ll want to let us know so that we can reprocess your referrals. Please do so by calling our referrals department at 858-200-8480. We’ll then reprocess your referrals and notify you.
